Despina joined Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Sr Manager of the Pharma Analytics R&D in April 2022. She has over 10 years of experience in Microbial Genomics and Microbiology. She holds a Ph.D in Biology from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and a M.Sc. degree in Microbial Biotechnology from the same university in a joint thesis program conducted in the University of Warwick with a FEMS scholarship. She did her postdoctoral training at Florida A&M University, Old Dominion University and University of California, Berkeley, where she conducted research as a Research Specialist until she joined Boost Biomes in January 2019. While at Boost, Despina set up NGS Sequencing capabilities and a bioinformatics pipeline. Then, she joined Mawi DNA Technologies where she led the development of the next generation of IVD products through strategies that metFDA(510(k)), CE-IVD and other regulatory requirements. She also served as the instructor of UC Berkeley’s QB3’s ComputationalGenomics and Research Laboratory’s workshop from 2015-2018 and she was awarded for herDOE–Joint Genome Institute Microbial/Metagenome Proposal as a co-PI in 2017.
